A Walk to Spend an Afternoon Out in Padstow

We always feel incredibly lucky to be enjoying life down in Cornwall but rarely more so than when taking the beautiful stroll into Padstow. The Saints Way runs from Padstow

Yesterday I walked into Padstow. I think that is one of the reasons why we choose to live where we do. Our farm overlooks the beautiful Little Petherick Creek, which is the only wooded creek on the north coast of Cornwall. And the other side of the Little Petherick Creek is Padstow, so one has the choice of walking one way or another around the creek into Padstow from our farm. Two wonderful choices!

It was around this time 20 years ago, the day before we “viewed” what was to become “our” little Cornish farm at Trevorrick, that we parked at Little Petherick and walked into Padstow, the “other side of the creek”. The wood here is full of wildflowers in the spring, bluebells and wild garlic, and the footpath here is part of The Saints Way that runs from Padstow to Fowey on the south coast.

I think we decided to buy the farm before viewing it, on seeing what a beautiful spot it was in. This is a view toward our farm which is on the left about a third of the page in.

Walking around the Little Petherick Creek to Padstow takes a little longer, but is well worth the time,  so more frequently I walk “our side” of the creek, which is just a 45 minute walk into Padstow………. But it does depend on just how long you stop to look at the views. This is a summer view, from the hamlet of Tregonce but it is equally beautiful any time of year.

And of course when you get to Padstow you can sit and enjoy a wonderful Cornish Pasty, we always recommend The Chough Bakery, and admire the views over the Camel Estuary towards Rock, before the walk back.

Some of our guests hardly feel like they need to use their car. Especially as The Pickwick Inn is just 10 minutes along the lane.

We are truly lucky to live in such a wonderful location and share our farm stay experience with all our lovely guests.
