Here’s how to make the most of a winter stay at Trevorrick Farm.

1. Soak and Unwind in Your Private Hot Tub

After a day out exploring, there’s nothing like returning to your cottage to relax in your own private hot tub. The contrast of cool winter air and the warmth of the bubbling water creates an atmosphere of pure bliss. Soak under the stars, surrounded by the serene countryside—an unforgettable way to end your day. Enjoy a glass of local Cornish wine or cider while you unwind together.

2. Romantic Walks on the Camel Trail and Coastal Paths

Cornwall offers some of the most breathtaking coastal and countryside walks, perfect for couples, and they start at the front door of your cottage. The nearby Camel Trail is ideal for a leisurely stroll, offering scenic views of the estuary and lush woodlands. In winter, the trail is quieter, providing a more intimate experience.

It’s just a three quarters of an hour walk into Padstow from the farm – just along a stretch of quiet lane, over some fields and down onto the Camel Trail.

For a more dramatic view, explore the South West Coast Path, where rugged cliffs and expansive ocean views set the scene for an unforgettable walk. Popular sections near Trevorrick Farm include the routes from Padstow to Stepper Point and Polzeath to Port Isaac, both of which are rich with coastal beauty and charming hidden coves. Don’t forget your camera, as winter light along the coastline creates particularly stunning photo opportunities.

3. Explore Cornwall on Two Wheels

For couples who love cycling, the Camel Trail is also a fantastic option for a scenic bike ride. This gentle, mostly flat path follows a former railway line, making it accessible for cyclists of all levels. The route from Wadebridge to Padstow is especially scenic and offers views over the Camel Estuary. You can even stop for a warm drink in Padstow before continuing back. Bike rentals are available in both Padstow and Wadebridge, so it’s easy to choose your route.

4. Indulge in Local Dining Experiences

Cornwall is known for its outstanding local food, and winter is the perfect time to cozy up in some of the area’s best restaurants and pubs. Treat yourselves to a romantic meal in Padstow, where you’ll find everything from fresh seafood to gourmet delights at popular spots like Paul Ainsworth at No. 6 or Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant.

For something more relaxed, try The Cornish Arms in St. Merryn. This charming pub offers a welcoming atmosphere with a roaring fireplace and comforting seasonal dishes. Winter menus often feature locally-sourced game, seafood, and warming classics like Cornish pasties. Many spots also cater to a range of dietary preferences, so you’re sure to find a meal you’ll love.

And don’t forget our amazing local pub/restaurant, The Pickwick Inn, 500 metres along our lane (note they take a winter break for 6 weeks from mid December to early February). But don’t worry, we also have the Ring O Bells just one mile away in our village of St Issey.

5. Discover Cornwall’s Magical Winter Gardens

Cornwall’s famous gardens are just as enchanting in winter, each with its own unique seasonal charm.

  • The Lost Gardens of Heligan: These historic gardens are captivating all year round, but winter adds a quiet beauty to their winding paths, ancient woodland, and restored Victorian greenhouses. Stroll hand-in-hand through Heligan’s subtropical areas, marvel at the exotic plants that thrive even in winter, and keep an eye out for frosty sculptures and seasonal displays.
  • The Eden Project: With its massive indoor biomes, the Eden Project offers a warm escape from the chilly air. Wander through the tropical rainforest biome, complete with towering trees, waterfalls, and vibrant plants, or enjoy the Mediterranean biome, filled with the scents of olive groves and herbs. During winter, Eden also hosts seasonal activities like ice skating, adding a festive touch to your visit.
  • Trelissick Garden: Located on the banks of the River Fal, Trelissick is another beautiful winter destination. While the gardens are quieter this time of year, the estate offers lovely views over the river, woodland trails, and paths bordered by evergreens and winter-flowering plants. It’s a peaceful place to spend an afternoon exploring together.

6. Coastal Village Strolls and Warm Café Stops

The charm of Cornwall’s coastal villages is undeniable, especially in winter when crowds are smaller and the streets are quieter. Visit Padstow to enjoy its twinkling Christmas lights in December, quaint shops, and harborside cafes. Port Isaac is another lovely village with its narrow streets, whitewashed cottages, and dramatic coastal views.

Warm up with a stop at one of the local cafés for a traditional Cornish cream tea or a hot chocolate. Whether you’re perched by the window watching waves crash against the shore or nestled by a fireplace, these café moments are perfect for slowing down and savoring the season.
